    Electrical Cable Selection and Installation

Since we began using TPC, I am very happy to report we have not changed a single cable out to date. TPC has greatly reduced downtime and is an important asset to our welding safety program. I highly recommend TPC cables for any severe service condition.

    cable selection process

Choosing electrical cable requires you to consider a lot of different factors. You need to take into consideration not just the application itself, but how the cable will be installed, what type of environment it will be in, and any stressors it will be subject to.

    Choosing the Right Electrical Cable

Every circumstance is different, which is why electrical cable selection is so essential.

For instance, if you need cable for an area subject to high flexibility, the cable must be able to hold up to movement over time. Cable used on a reel should be able to bend without damaging the interior conductors.

Other environmental factors that might come into play include:

Our electrical cable selection is intended to stand up to harsh environmental factors and serve a variety of industrial applications. Choosing the right cable in the first place will help prevent early cable failure.

Just as important is how you install your cable.

    Electrical Cable Installation

We recommend the following best practices for electrical cable installation:

    • Select the cable with the smallest outside diameter that meets your temperature, motion and conductor needs

    • Before installation, allow cable to hang freely for 24 hours in the environment where it will be used to help eliminate the tension from the packaging and acclimate the cable to the environment

    • Use a strain relief to minimize cable stress

    • Don't over-tighten cable ties or clamps, as this can break inner conductors

    • In applications that require cable movement, do not restrict the movement with ties

These are the basics of electrical cable installation. Our team of experts can lead you through choosing and installing electrical cable for your particular application and environment, ensuring that the electrical cable you install will hold up to your application and environment, offer the longest lifespan, and provide the greatest reliability.
