We needed a better cable in critical areas of our control system so TPC showed us their Super-Trex® and Trex-Onics® products but TPC challenged us to try anything to cause a failure. We decided to try the most abusive thing we could think of — run the cable over with a 60,000 lb track rig. When the initial test didn’t cause a failure, we performed a 0 degree turn, pivoting directly on the cable. The only damage to the cable was the abraded outer casing. Since this experiment 3 years ago, we have been using Super-Trex® and Trex-Onics® for our mission-critical cable assemblies, without a failure.

Case Study: Minerals Mine Machines Fail From Flexing

miner

Customer Problem:

A leading producer of industrial minerals serving a wide variety of raw materials applications was experiencing cable failures every six months on their high-demand screener and shaker machines. While sifting and screening equipment is built for constant use, the portable cords powering them weren’t as ready for the task. With all of the frequent flexing, vibration, and rapid movements present on these machines, a more rugged solution was needed.

TPC Solution:

This customer didn’t understand how frequent their cable replacement really was until they learned more about us from one of our local field specialists. After witnessing a live TPC product demo and seeing first-hand how our cable withstands conditions comparable to those in the mines, it was clear that our Super-Trex® Triple-Gard® Portable Cords were the answer. Equipped with 2 ½ times more stranding and tinned copper conductors, our Super-Trex® line of products offer excellent resistance to cable fatigue and breakage. Plus, our dual-layered, fiber-reinforced jacket adds strength against twisting and pulling – a great solution for these machines.

Customer's Result:

By switching from a commodity cable to a longer-lasting TPC cable, this customer successfully achieved an increase in production by 21 hours and a cost savings of $3,158. We checked back 24 months later to confirm our cable was still going strong. That’s what we like to hear!
