An international silver and copper mine was experiencing cable failures on their drilling jumbos due to the corkscrewing motion present during the tunneling process. Drill jumbos are seen most often in underground mines where drilling and blasting are present, or when rock hardness prevents typical tunneling machines to be used. When this South American mining customer realized they were replacing their cable too frequently on multiple jumbo drilling machines due to abrasion, they knew it was time to explore something a little more reliable that would resist tearing.
TPC's International Field Specialist examined the application carefully and suggested a 2/0 Super-Trex® 600 Volt Welding Cable as a longer-lasting solution. After switching to this cable, it lasted 14 months without replacement, saving them $8,300 in product and labor costs, and gaining them 244 production hours.
