The ordinary welding cable our customer was using wasn’t holding up to the abusive environment it was in. They were using it throughout the facility — indoor and outdoor — and it was continually getting nicked and pinched and covered in drops of steel. They were repairing the cable every two months or so.
We knew the TSE jacket on our Super-Trex® brand DC Welding cable would hold up to the weld splatter as well as heat and flame. Since it was being used inside and out, we made sure to recommend a cable that continued to stay flexible in all weather conditions, too.
Initially, the customer was hesitant to spend the extra money on TPC cable. After seeing the results, that is not a concern. Our customer changed out the cable on 500 welding units resulting in a material cost savings of $167,750, a labor savings of over $52,000 for a total saving of over $220,000. We last checked in with them at 6 months after the change out and the TPC cable had not been repaired or replaced on any of the units — increasing their production by 2,250 hours!
